Active pursuits
The Lake District offers ample opportunities for outdoor activities for energetic visitors:
* Pick one of many mountains to climb or abseil from.
* Make the most of the lakes and partake in a watersport:
water skiing, windsurfing, sailing or kayaking.
* Saddle up and go pony trekking or learn to ride.
* Opt for a gentle stroll to admire the view
or spend the day fell walking.
* Bring your bike and try one of the many routes
for mountain biking or road cycling,
* Fancy a round of golf? There are easily accessible golf courses
at Penrith, Brampton, Keswick, Carlisle and Appleby-in-Westmorland.
* For other regular sporting activities there are leisure centres at Penrith and Keswick
and there are open-air pools at Shap and Askham, both near The Steading.

Eden Valley and the Lake District National Park,

Rainy days.....
It's quite possible that you may experience some rain during your stay in Cumbria,
but please don't let that put you off!
Simply see this as an opportunity to absorb the history of the area by visiting the many castles, historic houses and museums including those of writer Beatrix Potter and poet William Wordsorth.
Visitor Centres offer a wealth of information about your holiday destination. The largest centre is Rheged, near Penrith. There is also the Whinlatter Forest Visitor Centre – Keswick and the National Park Visitor Centre, Brockhole, which is set in 30 acres of gardens beside Lake Windermere.
